Center for Energy Efficiency and Building Science (CEEBS)

CEEBS is headquartered at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) and provides building science/energy efficiency training across most of New York State. HVCC is the administrator of CEEBS. There are currently 10 learning centers in the CEEBS network with at least two additional centers planned for 2009. Each learning center has its own instructional staff, a schedule of classes, and it markets those classes to prospective students. The training that students receive through CEEBS is recognized by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). BPI is a national independent certification organization that sets the standards for building science and energy efficiency. CEEBS training helps prepare students to take the BPI certification exams. Each exam has two parts: a written test and a practical field test.

CEEBS has proven to be quite successful since its inception in late 2006. Prior to CEEBS, building science training was administered by one organization with three instructors delivering training in various locations across the SBC utilitiy territories. On average, approximately 295 students were trained per year over six years. In 2007, while the first five CEEBS learning centers were being developed, 382 students were trained. In 2008, an additional five learning centers were added, and nearly 800 students received building science training. For 2009, it is estimated that CEEBS will train at least 1,700 building technicians. For more information visit the CEEBS webpage on the HVCC website.
