BOC Training for Facility Operators

 - Albany, NY (8 days, beginning May 10 – August 9, 2011)
 - Syracuse, NY (8 days, beginning August 30 – November 16, 2011)

NYSERDA has partnered with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council to deliver Building Operator Certification training for building engineers and facility operators. The training provides 74 hours of training and project work and is delivered in 7 sessions spread over four months.

Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a nationally-recognized training and certification program for building operators offering improved job skills and more comfortable energy-efficient facilities. Participants receive instruction and valuable reference materials in energy conservation techniques, facility electrical systems, indoor environmental quality, HVAC systems and controls, energy efficient lighting, and operations and maintenance practices for building systems. Certification provides a credential for professional development and offers employers a way to identify skilled operators. BOC level I is intended for those with two or more years of experience in building operations and maintenance.

Apprenticeships

NYSERDA funds are available to add energy efficiency elements to an existing apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship programs must first be registered with the New York State Department of Labor. NYSERDA is currently looking to partner with apprenticeship providers to support state efficiency goals.

Internships

Internships are a means of linking academic learning with real world of work experiences and can be tailored to the unique needs and interests of the learner and business. For example, funding from NYSERDA has helped sponsor the CUNY Building Performance Lab Intern Energy Program to place students in a variety of energy measurement, management and research projects. NYSERDA is looking to develop additional internship programs in the near future.
